What is Creative?
In affiliate marketing, a creative is any promotional asset provided by a merchant to their affiliates — including banner images in standard sizes, pre-written text links with embedded tracking, email copy templates, product images, and logo files — accessed through the affiliate network's creative library.
Creative In Practice
Creatives are the pre-built promotional materials that merchants supply to save affiliates from generating their own. Their practical usefulness varies significantly by type. Text link creatives — short anchor-text phrases with embedded tracking URLs — are the most useful because they allow affiliates to drop tracking links directly into content without constructing URLs manually, and because text links outperform banner creatives in every CTR measurement. Banner creatives — rectangular image ads in standard sizes like 300x250, 728x90, and 160x600 — are provided by almost every program but produce very low CTR in 2026 due to banner blindness, making them most useful as brand reinforcement alongside editorial content rather than as primary conversion tools. Email copy templates and promotional graphics are occasionally useful for affiliates running dedicated promotional campaigns. The most valuable aspect of the creative library is not the banner images — it is the pre-built tracking links and any seasonal promotional assets that coincide with higher buyer intent, such as Black Friday landing pages or limited-time offer banners that link directly to active promotions.

In the creative library they find: six banner ads in standard sizes (300x250, 728x90, 160x600), four pre-written text link creatives ('Try Moosend Free', 'Start Your Free Email Marketing Trial', 'Moosend — Email Marketing for Growing Businesses', 'Get Started with Moosend'), and a Black Friday landing page link. The affiliate ignores the banner ads (0.3% expected CTR) and uses the text link creatives as the base for all in-content affiliate links, customising the anchor text for each article's context. The Black Friday landing page link is bookmarked for use in the November promotional email, as it will connect readers directly to a time-limited offer page rather than the standard homepage.
